Sailor’s Song

Synopsis

The sailor Jørgen returns home to Denmark for a single night and tries to track down his lost love whom he left many years ago. As the hours passes by, Jørgen realizes that much has changed, and he makes startling discoveries about himself and the woman he used to love.

Gavriil Tzafkas

Gabriel Tzafka was born in April 1986. He received his MFA in film directing from the Film Department of Fine Arts of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki in 2010. In the beginning of the Greek crisis he moved to Copenhagen and he joined the prestigious Danish Film School Super 16. Meanwhile he became an alumnus of Berlinale and Sarajevo Talents. Among his short films, Oblivion, Sailor and Euroman have travelled in numerous festivals and were honored with more than 30 international awards. In 2017 he completed his first feature film, Thorn, a Danish-Greek co-production which received the Eurimages Lab Award. In 2019 he joined The Factory and Director’s Fortnight, Cannes with the film The Right One. Ode To Joy is his second feature film and has been developed with support from Media Creative Europe in Sam Spiegel Jerusalem Film Lab, Nipkow Programme and selected for Cinefondation’s L’Atelier in Festival de Cannes 2019. Gabriel is a member of the European Film Academy, Danish Film Academy and Danish Film Directors’ Association.
