Tara Aghdashloo is a writer and filmmaker born in Iran. As a journalist she’s worked on a number of docu-series and reports for television (BBC, Channel 4, Manoto), as well as publishing her essays, articles, short stories and poetry (The Guardian, TANK, The New Inquiry, and more), with a focus on the Middle East and women. Since 2016 she’s been leading independent documentary and film projects, including short films and music videos. In 2020 she completed a filmmaking masterclass at the London Film Academy with renowned director Mohsen Makhmalbaf, who remains as her mentor, and she’s enrolled in Sundance Collab’s Directing Actors. Her feature film is currently in development with funds from Telefilm Canada, and her first narrative short The Ride was commissioned by Canada Arts Council and the BFI Network.
