After simultaneously studying Philosophy at the University of Amsterdam and Directing Fiction at the Netherlands Film Academy, Thom eventually chose for film. However, philosophy has always had an important influence on his filmmaking. He graduated from the Dutch Film Academy with the short film ‘Harmonia’ (2020), a film about a mass burn-out event at a prestigious university, taking on an increasing performance pressure among younger generations. The film has had a broad festival circuit and won amongst others Most Original Film at the Filmschool Fest Munich. He also co-wrote the screenplay, a role he also took on for his future projects. He is currently in the pre-production of his first feature Flower Stone (2024).
